Well done to Brosna for a great win against Ballyduff in the first round of the Junior Premier Championship last Wednesday. Hot on the heels of this game, the team had to regroup to play St Michael’s/Foilmore on Saturday. Unfortunately, they fell just shy of a draw, losing by a single point in a taut game in Ballinskelligs. It’s all to play for this coming Sunday, when we complete our final game in the group. Annascaul is coming to Brosna at 2.30pm on 21 August. Do make your way to Pairc na Feile for this very important game. It’s all to play for.

Congratulations to Mike Moriarty who was crowned Kerry Pool Champion in July. The competition saw Brosna’s Timmy Winters go out in the semi final before Mike went on to win against Niall Marshall, the current chairman of the Kerry Pool Association. Well done to both Mike and Timmy on their achievements.

David Lane of Lavalla travelled to Coventry with An Riocht to take part in the International Children’s Games 2022. This is a fantastic achievement for a young man who, although relatively new to the world of athletics, has already won medals and is now representing Ireland at this prestigious event. The North Kerry minor team with Duagh members has made the County final. Final time, venue etc made be found on twitter duaghGAA1 Facebook and Instagram.

Congratulations to Joseph Halpin, Foildarrig, son of Ted and Josephine and Lena Fitzsimmons, Limerick who were married at the weekend.

Last Saturday all roads lead to Carlow for the highly anticipated National Community Games finals. In it’s second year at Carlow, a fabulous track and facilities were on display. The weather was fairly hot, 31 degrees and staying cool was a challenge in itself.

Duagh/Lyre had six participants taking part: Oisín O’Regan, Noelle Dillon, Cillian McMahon, Eimear Buckley, Angharad Cudlipp and Aoibhínn Harte over a number of events.

U16 1,500m: Congratulations to Duagh/Lyre and Kerry participant Noelle Dillon in the u16 1,500m race who finished a strong 8th in a very competitive field with a blistering early pace. This race was in the early morning part of the day and Noelle later ran with the relay team. It is great to see Noelle in a Kerry jersey and she did everyone so proud. This lady is making great strides in her athletics training and has stuck with it over the years and it is paying off. Well done Noelle.

U16 200m: Well done Oisín O’Regan superb running in the u16 200m 3rd in the semi in a fantastic race and a brilliant run in the final just outside the medals finishing 7th overall, a slip at the start didn’t make it easy but Oisin took it in his stride and put in a great performance. Congratulations Oisín a great Community Games season in 2022 gold in Kerry, Silver in Munster and one to remember in your final year. You have given great memories over the years at Community Games and we are so proud of you and all your efforts. Great support on the day from your family who made it an early start leaving Duagh at 5am, great dedication by you all. U16 Discus: A superb National finals for Cillian McMahon in the u16 discus. Cillian threw a new pb and after the first three throws was lying in 4th place, with a further three throws Cillian was just edged outside the medals in 5th. This talented lad who just picked up this event shortly before County finals done brilliant. Great support on the day from his family. Well done Cillian we are so proud of you and it is great that you are carrying on the throwing tradition from the McMahon’s. You’re grandfather Tom McMahon (RIP) would be so proud as would your uncle Timmy who was Duagh/Lyre’s first National Community games participant in Mosney.

U16 Discus: A long wait and the final event of the day was the U16 girls discus, with the schedule changing a number of times. It was the turn of Duagh/Lyre and Kerry participant Aoibhínn Harte in the u16 discus. Aoibhinn finished 9th overall with a new pb and narrowly missing out on a top 8 spot. This is Aoibhínn’s last year in Community Games and she really enjoyed the experience finishing the athletics season on a high. Well done on representing Duagh/Lyre and Kerry Community Games. We are so proud of you and keep up the throwing.

U16 4 x 100m Relay: Well done to the u16 girls relay who ran a great race. The girls did amazing and as an area we are so proud of each one of the girls. Team: Noelle Dillon, Aoibhínn Harte, Angharad Cudlipp and Eimear Buckley. Coach: John Bunyan. Its these four girls last year in Community Games and they have given great service to lots of events/activities over the year since age 6/7. It’s good to see them competing at National finals in their final year and they did do with pride.

Thanks to all our participants, coaches, parents, volunteers and supporters on the day for all the encouragement on the day and in the training preparation before the competition. It was a long but exciting and brilliant day for all involved, memories made to last a lifetime. Special thanks to Nelius Collins for keeping us posted on the games and changes to the schedule and for his continued support to Duagh/Lyre participants.
