Russia's provocations against NATO, which it is carrying out near the borders of the Baltic states, will remain merely soundbites, since any war with NATO would be brief and not end in the Kremlin's favor, military expert Oleg Zhdanov told Radio NV on June 22.
Amid Russian advances and spiking Ukrainian casualties, anger and frustration over the handling of the war is swelling among military families.
The FBI has raided a string of churches in Texas and Georgia that are situated near US military bases that have been accused of targeting servicemen. The agency confirmed that it had conducted a raid at Assembly of Prayer Christian Church, in Killeen, Texas, which is just six miles from the country’s biggest base, Fort Hood. Agents also raided the House of Prayer Church in Hinesville, Georgia, which is located near Fort Stewart, and the Assembly of Prayer church in Augusta, Georgia, which is near Fort Gordon.
OLHA HLUSHCHENKO - FRIDAY, 24 JUNE 2022, 07:23 Ukrainian troops have uncovered and defeated several Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups and deployed combat aircraft to launch an airstrike on a concentration of Russian troops.
Ukrainian troops are using a “mobile defense” strategy in the Donbas, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on Ukrainian national television, commenting on reports of the capture by Russian invaders of the settlements of Loskutivka and Rai-Oleksandrivka near the city of Severodonetsk in the Luhansk Oblast.
In recent days, Russian forces have made gains around Sievierodonetsk and the neighboring city of Lysychansk in a bid to encircle Ukrainian forces.
It took Russia weeks of fierce fighting, an untold number of casualties, and relentless shelling before the exhausted Ukrainian defenders of Sievierodonetsk received orders to quit its smouldering wreckage. "Remaining in positions smashed to pieces over many months just for the sake of staying there does not make sense," Serhiy Gaidai, governor of the wider region, said on Ukrainian television on Friday. But its capture, if and when officially confirmed, is likely to be hailed by Russia as evidence that its switch from its early and unsuccessful attempts at "lightning warfare" to a much slower grinding offensive which relies more on long-range shelling rather than close-quarters combat, is paying off.
Ukraine's months-long defense in Severodonetsk against their Russian adversaries ended when military authorities ordered a retreat from the city.

Ukraine said Russian forces had "fully occupied" a town south of the strategically important city of Lysychansk in the eastern Luhansk region as of Friday, and Moscow claimed it had encircled about 2,000 Ukrainian troops in the area. The loss of Hirske and several other settlements around it leaves Lysychansk, the last major Ukrainian-controlled city in Luhansk, in danger of being enveloped from three sides by advancing Russian forces. "Unfortunately, as of today... the entire Hirske district is occupied," Hirske's municipal head Oleksiy Babchenko said in a television broadcast.
At least 40 Russian soldiers have been injured after a Ukrainian goat set off a boobytrap they were laying around a hospital in Zaporizhzhia with its “chaotic movements”.

SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered a strengthening of the country's defence capabilities as he wrapped up a key meeting with top military officials, state media said on Friday, raising concerns about its possible addition of tactical nuclear weapons. The meeting has been closely watched due to growing speculation that Pyongyang could conduct its first nuclear test in five years, which U.S. and South Korean officials have said could take place at "any time" now. Kim presided over the three-day Enlarged Meeting of the 8th Central Military Commission where top officials "approved an important issue of providing a military guarantee for further strengthening the country's war deterrent," official KCNA media said.
Okinawa marked the 77th anniversary Thursday of the end of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, with the governor calling for a further reduction of the U.S. military presence there as local fears grow that the southern Japanese islands will become embroiled in regional military tension. The Battle of Okinawa killed about 200,000 people, nearly half of them Okinawan residents. Japan's wartime military, in an attempt to delay a U.S. landing on the main islands, essentially sacrificed the local population.
