An Elden Ring player manages to survive a seemingly deadly fall, only to instead meet death at the hands of an approaching monster below.
An Elden Ring player recently defied death by surviving a fall from a very great height - only to be struck down by an enemy below in mid-celebration. While Elden Ring isn’t quite as punishing as some of developer FromSoftware’s previous action RPG outings thanks to its open-world format, the Lands Between is still a brutal and unforgiving place where any move could be the player’s last as they attempt to gather the lost fragments of the titular Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.
While many Elden Ring players have shared videos of their custom-made Tarnished characters meeting a gruesome end at the hands of a monstrous enemy, one of the deadliest foes in the game might just be the natural force of gravity itself. Both player and enemy alike can suffer damage or even be killed if they fall off a ledge or cliff in Elden Ring, to the point where some of the game’s more crafty players often trick opponents into jumping out of a massive tower to their deaths on the unforgiving rocks below. Other Elden Ring fans have devised methods for surviving an accidental slip by using a simple attack animation, but this isn’t foolproof. Still, there are those lucky Tarnished who have managed to live through an unfortunate stumble into the abyss in Elden Ring - though it bears repeating that the Lands Between is still filled with plenty of other dangers aside from gravity.

A Twitter user and Twitch streamer by the handle of mugalous recently learned this lesson the hard way during an Elden Ring playthrough in which they managed to cheat death after rolling off a ledge in the middle of an intense battle. Mugalous was able to gain a brief respite by slowing their descent by attacking a nearby wall, rubbing their lance against it and slowing their fall enough to reach the ground below. Even mugalous doesn’t seem to believe their luck after this, repeatedly exclaiming “What?” as a menacing Royal Revenant enemy reaches them and strikes down their Elden Ring Tarnished with a single blow - turning triumph into tragedy in the blink of an eye. However, most of the Twitter users in the comment section of mugalous’ post are more impressed with the fact that they survived the fall in the first place, regardless of what happened almost immediately after.
The unpredictability of Elden Ring’s open-world format and the wealth of entertaining gameplay clips that have come from it is just part of the reason that the game has become extremely successful in the months since its release back in February - where it quickly became one of 2022’s highest-selling video games in the first half of the year. Even notable celebrities like tech mogul Elon Musk and WWE Superstar Randy Orton are Elden Ring fans, with the latter impressing other players with his surprisingly high character level and the former drawing derision with his shockingly underwhelming Tarnished loadout.
Both of these high-profile Elden Ring players would do well to heed the lesson of mugalous’ recent brush with death: that even if one survives a fall from a great height in the Lands Between, they still must remain ever vigilant to the many enemies that are looking to cut them down just as quick and brutally as mere gravity itself. Still, it can’t be taken away that mugalous was able to survive that fall to begin with, something not many Elden Ring players can claim.
